DIY Holiday Décor Activities

We teamed up with some of our favourite Instagram accounts and Canadian small businesses to share some really fun, easy and engaging DIY décor ideas that you can do with you children this holiday season! Be sure to check them all out below!

Nature Garland

Here at Little Bear’s Woodshop we made a festive nature garland using dried citrus pieces and some greenery from a rose bouquet that had reached its peak.  Nature garland is the perfect addition to your mud kitchen, Christmas tree, or along a window or doorway.  You can add pine needles, or cinnamon too, if you’d like!

Felt Christmas Tree

Megan from @littleslearnandgrow shared the cutest felt Christmas Tree for your littles to make.  She used wooden skewers and a wood slice and then cut out green felt squares for her kids to create a Christmas tree. This is a great fine motor activity too!  Check out her Instagram page for more great sensory and play ideas.

Pinecone Ornament

Rebecca from @the_active_reader created a pinecone ornament using a pinecone from a nature walk and mini festive pom poms from the dollar store!  I love how easy this activity is to put together and your kids are going to love hanging their own ornaments on the tree!  Check out theactivereader.com for their simple and easy-to-use reading tools to help build your child’s basic reading skills.

Christmas Tree Skirt

Makyla from @planted.creative is an incredibly talented Certified Interior Stylist.  Her DIY Christmas Tree Skirt is so sweet because every year you add your children(s) footprints to the skirt.  What a beautiful keepsake.  Check out www.plantedcreative.ca to see all of the services and early learning resources Makyla offers.

Upcycled Christmas Wreath

Heather from @mamanaturale created an upcycled nature wreath and it is gorgeous!  She cut out a wreath shape from an old Amazon box (I’m sure we all have lots of those lying around!) and wrapped twine around the circle.  From there she got her kids involved to help weave pine branches in and used other fun nature treasures, dried citrus pieces and cinnamon for a pretty and delicious smelling wreath.  You can see lots of other great upcycled and nature play ideas from Heather on her Instagram Page.

Magnetic Tile Countdown

Magnetic Minds Inc is a recently launched Canadian small business featuring non-toxic magnetic tiles.  These tiles are beautiful with their star patented design and have super strong magnets that make them amazing for big builds…we just love ours!  They created a Magnetic Tile Countdown and we think it’s pretty sweet!  Check out www.magneticmindsinc.com for their Black Friday sale that is now live.

Glitter Tree

Meg from @intentionalplayeveryday glammed up the cutest wooden decal tree from the dollar store.  She used white glue and glitter to decorate and it is just the cutest décor piece.  I’m sure your littles would love this one!  Meg has lots of great sensory and play ideas over on her Instagram page…be sure to check her out!

We hope you enjoyed these easy, fun, and child friendly DIY’s for the Holiday season.  Remember to always choose activities that are age appropriate for your child.
